With a strong development department at the Auerbach site, Cherry GmbH guarantees optimal response to the customer requirements and development of tailor made product solutions. In the field of miniature switches (snap switches), two interlinked challenges were faced over the past two months. In order to offer cost-effective solutions, the range of products had to be reduced, increasing the use of and demand for carry-over parts. The upgrade of the tried-and-tested D4 switch to include an integrated RAST 2.5 connection is directed specifically towards fulfilling these requirements.
Alongside the expansion to include the RAST 2.5 contact, Cherry GmbH presented an additional modification to the tried-and-tested miniature switch D4. A request from a well-known household appliance manufacturer for a solution for switching special capacitor loads led to the development of the new model D4W.
Miniature switch D4W – tailor-made solution in response to customer demand
The classic D4 switch, which was previously only available with the established coil spring switch system, is now also available as D4W with Omega-shaped leaf spring. With the omega-shaped leaf spring, the D4W offers a wiping contact system, which guarantees reliable switching, in particular under special conditions, e.g applications with capacitive loads.
With this development, Cherry offers its customers two different contact systems based on the D4 switch. The coil spring system of the D4 offers precision and repeat accuracy with high reproducibility of the switching point over a long lifetime.
The D4W (W stands for "wiping") now also covers applications requiring a wiping contact system. As with all other D4 models, the D4W can be equipped with an integrated RAST 2.5 connection system in the lid. The D4W is used e.g. as a so-called ground switch in dishwashers. If water flows into the base tub due to a leak in the water cycle, the switch is activated via a float and switches the filling valve and the lye pump off to prevent water damage.
Miniature switch D4 – The lean product in pure form
D4 miniature switches from Cherry GmbH have been in use for over 20 years millions of times over in the household appliance industry. Over the past few years, the RAST 2.5 connection has developed into an extremely popular connection system. In order to fulfil the demand for standardization in connection concepts, the perfect solution was to upgrade the tried-and-tested D4 miniature switch to include a RAST 2.5mm connection system. With the moulded contact frame, the switch can now be plugged directly to the wire harness with no further handling in a single connection process by the cost-effective RAST 2.5 contact. This means that there is no longer any need for expensive and time-consuming mixed assembly, significantly reducing the integration and installation costs. The D4 miniature switch also comes with the tried-and-tested "Gold Crosspoint" contact for use in signal currents.
