Water will soon be more important than oil

Environment Report 2008 / Sewage/Water

The average amount of water consumed by one person for private use (hygiene, toilet, clothing, washing vehicles etc.) lies at 47450 l per year. According to the World Heath Authority, the minimum amount of water required by one person to survive is 7300 l per year. Many people have to live with less than this.

Plant 1: 98% of water consumption used for sanitary purposes
At the Auerbach plant, the water consumption has remained the same as the previous year with 9735 m³. The annual per-head consumption is 7000 l / employee. Around 98% of the water is used for sanitary and other purposes and just 2% is used for industrial purposes.

Plant 2: Increasing consumption
In the Wolfsbach plant, the water consumption has increased from 2605 m³ in the previous year by around 8 % to 2828 m³. This increase is the result of a rise is cooling water consumption in the factory for cooling the injection moulding machines. This is achieved with a closed cooling water system ("new building") and an open cooling circuit ("old building"). For these cooling circuits, around 1959 m³ water was used in 2007, which is almost entirely used by the open circuit. The cooling water consumption in 2006 was 1380 m³. This increase is the result of cleaning and maintenance work carried out and climate conditions which cannot be influenced (water evaporation from the system). However, due to optimized system settings, the cooling water consumption still lies significantly under the value of the previous year. The cooling water proportion of the overall consumption is 69%. Without the "special consumption" cooling water, the water requirement lies at 869 m³ and the per-head consumption at 4350 l (6200 l in the previous year).

Plant 3: The lowest per-head water consumption in the company
At the Klasterec plant, the water consumption lies at 4656 m³, the lowest value since 2000 (5299 m³ in the previous year). This reduction reflects the lower number of employees at the location. The water consumption in the factory is almost exclusively used for sanitary and other purposes (e.g. canteen) (industrial proportion < 1 %). The per-head consumption for each employee is approx. 10500 l (11000 l in the previous year) despite the low total value and is significantly higher than in other factories. The reason for this is the increased use of shower facilities.
