Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals (REACH) in accordance with EU Regulation no.1907/2006
On 1 June 2007, regulation number 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and Council came into effect regarding the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals (REACH). The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), based in Helsinki, Finland, has been charged with the execution and control of the REACH regulation. In contrast to the European guideline 2002/95/EG for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), REACH applies to a much larger area of industry. The purpose of the regulation is to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment.
Alongside the wide range of obligations in place for manufacturers and importers of substances, the obligation to supply information about materials that cause particular concern—in line with REACH article 33—plays an important role for product manufacturers. These materials that cause particular concern were published on the website of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) on 28/10/2008, in accordance with Article 59 (1, 10) of EU Regulation no. 1907/2006 (REACH).
